HomeLink has for several years tried to offer an insurance policy to compensate members who suffer last-minute exchange cancellations. Insurance agencies have not shown interest, and we have therefore established our own exchange cancellation guarantee.
 
Our exchange cancellation guarantee compensates members who suffer last-minute exchange cancellations by their exchange partners.

When members have made financial commitments (booked flights, etc.) prior to an unexpected cancelation by their exchange partner they will require commercial accommodation such as hotel, motel or Bed and Breakfast at the destination they planned for.

The annual premium (EUR 20) is placed ina fund accessible only to contributing members of HomeLink during that particular calendar/membership year.

In any one year the fund's total is entirely dependent upon the number of participants and the amount of premiums contributed. The amount of compensation available is dependent upon the number and amount of claims. Because accommodation expenses incurred by a family during a typical vacation can vary widely, we have to be conservative in our promise to provide "partial compensation" up to EUR 1,500.

In order to qualify for coverage, participating members must:

a) Submit HomeLink International Exchange Agreement Forms signed by both parties.

b) Both home exchangers in the contract must be current members of HomeLink International at the time of exchange.

c) Immediately when exchange partners cancel plans, request written explanation (proof) and submit this to HomeLink in order for us to attempt to locate a substitute at/near your desired destination.
If no substitute can be found, members may choose to go ahead with their vacation plans at their intended destination, stay in commercial accommodation, and send us a detailed accommodation-expense statement.

At the end of each calendar year we honour all claims by splitting the fund, on a pro-rata basis, amongst claimants. The compensation can, therefore, be total or partial.
